The Porsche Boxster is a mid-engine roadster line that became Porsche's entry-level car from 1996 up to the present. The 1st generation Boxster, the Porsche 986 (1996-2004), replaced the Porsche 968 by dropping the entry-level coupe line and focusing on the 2-door cabriolet. The 986 received a minor facelift in 2003 when the plastic rear window was replaced with glass. The 2nd generation Boxster, the 987, came out in 2005 side by side with the newest model of the 911 Series, the 997. The Boxster was re-designed again in 2009.
