Porsche 911 proved to be too pricey to be an entry-level car which led first to the release of its 4-cylinder version, the 912, which then officially replaced the
356. But Porsche soon realized that they needed a true entry-level car with a different design which led to the development of the mid-engined Porsche 914, which was released in 1969 with 4 and 6 -cylinder versions. From its release in 1969, the 914 had a fixed passenger seats which was replaced with a moveable seat in the middle of 1972. The 914 was discontinued in 1976 and replaced by the front-engined
