The Mercedes-Benz W115, the 4/5-cylinder line, and the similar
W114, the 6-cylinder line, were the newly designed entry-level sedans that replaced the
W111 and
W110 in 1968. Both lines were eventually replaced in 1976 by the E-Class' predecessor, the
W123 Sedan.
The W115 label not only represented the lower models but also the long wheel base (LWB) models of the new entry-level line. The first 4-cylinder models were the 200, 200D, 220 and 220D. The first LWB models were the 200D Lang and the 6-cylinder 230 Lang. In 1973, the 220 and 200D Lang were dropped and the 230.4, 240D and 240D Lang were added. The 5-cylinder 300D was added in 1974. All W115 models were discontinued in 1976.
