The Mercedes-Benz W111 was the first "Fintail" line and replaced the
W128 Sedan in 1959 as the "cheaper" luxury sedan relative to the more luxurious
W112 Sedan and the "entry-level" sedan, the
W110 Sedan. It first had 3 models: the 220b, 220Sb and 220SEb. In 1961,
2-door versions of the 220SEb was added replacing the
W128 Coupes/Cabriolets. In 1965, the 230S replaced the sedans and a new luxury sedan line was released, the
W108. The remaining "Fintail" sedans, the 230S and the
W110, became the new entry-level line. The 230S was replaced in 1968 by the new 6-cylinder entry-level sedan, the
W114 Sedan.
