The Jaguar S-Type was produced from 1963 to 1968 originally as a replacement of the
Jaguar Mark 2. But with the unexpected strong sales from the
Mark 2 and weak sales from the Mark X, the saloon version of the
Jaguar E-Type, Jaguar decided to sell them together. All Jaguar saloon models were then replaced by the
Jaguar XJ Series in 1968. The S-Type name only re-surfaced 30 years later in 1999 with the release of the S-Type Series 2.
