The Ferrari 400 is a front-engined 2+2 coupe and was the first automatic transmission car by Ferrari. Its design was derived from the almost identical looking 365 GT4 2+2 and its engine was based on the Daytona's engine. It was replaced in 1979 with the fuel-injected 400i, and then in 1985, by the much more powerful but still very identical looking 412. Ferrari dropped its front-engined line in 1989 before reviving it in 1992 with the Ferrari 456.
