The BMW 6 Series is the German automaker's top coupe line since 1976. It currently only has 2 generations since it was replaced in 1984 by a more expensive line of coupes, the BMW 8 Series. That move proved to be unsuccessful and the 6 Series was revived in 2004.

The BMW E63 coupes and E64 convertibles replaced the E24 as the new BMW 6 Series. Introduced in 2004, both body-styles were available in 2 models: the 3.0-L 630Ci and the 4.4-L V8 645Ci. In 2006, the 630Ci was re-named as just the 630i, the 645Ci was replaced by the 4.8-L V8 650i and the M6 Coupe was added. In 2007, the 6-Series was re-styled and Europe got a diesel version, the 635d. Also, the M6 Convertible was added.
