The BMW 3 Series is the compact luxury car line of the German automaker BMW since May 1975. Successor to the 2-door sporty sedans of the BMW "New Class", it has been produced in five different generations and in no less than five different body styles.
The BMW E46 was the successor of the
BMW E36 and is considered the 4th generation of the 3 Series. It came in 5 versions: 4-door sedans ('98-'05), 2-door coupes ('99-'07), 2-door convertibles ('00-'07), 2-door compacts ('01-'05) and 5-door tourings ('99-'05). The M3 ('00-'06) came as coupes and convertibles along with GTR and CSL versions. All models were eventually replaced by the next generation of the 3 Series, the
BMW E90.
